Rigging Soft Plastic Lures, Making the shallow corkscrew rig

I spent Monday morning fishing out of town on one of my favourite lakes that I had largely to myself. The conditions were perfect with just a bit of breeze, warm but with cloud cover. Monday morning at the office I had some pike to catch and something for the end of this video.

I started the session by making an amature mistake; making the first cast without getting my camera out of the bag and setting it up. Predictably it was one of those firsts cast that result in a fish, oddly I was a little disappointed about no camera but happy in way because I had made a good start.

I came, I saw and I caught all on the shallow screw rig and a homemade shad which as I was fishing mostly shallow water was perfect. The price of a great monday on the water is two days of editing and filming the rig making when the sun is shining and you want to get back out there. Happy days. Thanks again guys

Yamamoto's Dream

.

The Gary Yamamoto Bait Company has a name that sounds more Japanese than anything but the company and the guy behind it would probably give apple pie a run for its money. Gary Yamamoto is An American, an air force vet and a bass tournament fisherman, but he is probably best known for his soft plastic fishing lures. His baits are still made in his factory in the USA by a mostly Native American Workforce whose ancestors were catching fish in the local lakes  and rivers long before anybody decided to wrap an apple in some pastry.

But I am not here to provide free adverts, I am here with you guys to give this film a once over and see if we cannot learn something from these glimpses into his factory. Eyes peeled everybody there will be a test later.

Fishing Journeys Nutterjuck Lures

I am a big fan the guy behind Nutterjuck Lures, Scott Anderson he makes some truly original lures that step away from the everyday things your likely to see on tackle shops racks. So this video was a great find for me and also a great watch.

I forgot to post my own videos, Making a basic glide and the blogs

As the title suggests I may of been a little better at promoting other lure makers videos than I was at promoting my own, so this is a bit of a catch up. I have not completely gone over to the Vlog format I hope to work on standard videos at the same time.

River Piker's Lure Bucket

This is video from Paul Bosworth A.k.A. the river piker making a lure bucket for his larger lure fishing trips. I did do a little tiny voice-over for this so it is also a bit of shameless self promotion. Paul and his regular crew of predator hunters seem to be able to charm them fishes from the river, lake or even canal so it is well worth checking out his youtube channel, subscribing, liking, sharing and all that stuff.

Behind the scenes at the Handmade Fisherman and a knife style lure

The new year is upon us and I have been a little busy making plans and videos. This is a look behind the scenes and I did not brush up first.

Hopefully this is going to be another big year for the Handmade Fisherman Youtube channel. Some people say you should set goals, but I say bollocks to them sitting in offices setting goals all day when they should get out fishing instead of hiding behind desks laughing about some shit they watched on last night’s tv. (viva la revolution)

Anyway back to them goals, I think my school teacher said it best when he wrote on my report, “Paul, must try harder.” So that is what I will be doing, trying harder and more importantly trying new things. I want to get out and go fishing with some new people, go to some new places and meet some new fish and make some new things and get it all on camera so you can come along.

I need help, watch the video it will explain. Thanks

This the other video I made before Christmas as a bonus

Making Stick Baits with Shigenaga of Japan

For me the perfect holiday would be spending a week locked in another lure makers workshop; I would be happy just to brush up and catch the odd glimpse of them working. On the other hand it is great when lure builders make videos of what they do, saving me from all that nasty travelling and hanging about in airports. This is a two part video from Shenanigan a Japanese lure maker, it really gets into the detail of how he works. I think there is always a fear with lure makers that sharing a process will somehow give the competition a foot up. Watching these videos and the way he makes lures I kind of realized no matter how much he gives away, there will be few who can give the commitment required to produce these amazing lures.

check out the action

Test Tank Tuesday with Mikko

I do not normally post Mikko's (Solarfall Baits) stuff on this blog, because If you don't already know who he is, his website and videos then you are probably living under rock or you have finally been released after serving a long prison sentence. So for those ex-cons and Martians I give you Mikko's latest soft plastic monsters, and what a test tank. This is really a combination of his wood carving skills, mould making and a special soft plastic paint in the hands of a master from CAB paints of Finland. Oh yeah and just to rub it in he goes and catches a nice pike. BLOG LINK http://solarfallbaits.blogspot.co.uk/

Abu Garcia The story

I have a love hate relationship with Abu Garcia, there older reels like the buttleproof 7000 are the standard that others are measured by but some of their newer low profile far eastern imports have not lived up to their reputation. Still I am sure there are very few lure anglers who don't have a long love affair with an Abu.
