Lure Fishing with Turrall Dropshot Minnow Flies
Normally I stay well clear of fly fishing as I have developed an ability to injure passers by at some distance, but this is not fly fishing strictly speaking. As the title suggests this is dropshot fishing with flies and the host is none other than Dominic Garnett a fisherman and author who is no stranger to mixing it up. As we don't have bass in this country perch is the next best thing and Dominic walks us through a couple of different techniques as well as the gear. If your looking for some of the flies check out Turrall Flies Or if you fancy a book by Dominic as Christmas Present to yourself check out http://dgfishing.co.uk/ (I get one every year for myself that way I don't care if just get underpants from the family)

Fishing It Ain't, The hands we are dealt
Many years ago lots of people from the small town of Wigan in the north of England were sent to Australia to serve out prison sentences mainly for crimes against poverty. Things have changed a bit, these days they send Australian prisoners to work in Wigan as punishment, mainly in pubs and cafes. All this has nothing to do with the film other than it was made by an ex-Wigan lad living in Oz called Simon Woods about another ex-wigan lad and artist Pete Conroy. I stumbled on this because of a fellow lure maker Barry Robinson who still lives there, Wigan that is not Oz, which reminds me I need to go fishing with him. I would say "enjoy the film" but that is a given.

Mayme a new type of hero
Fishing as a sport in the UK seems to attract more than its fair share of fat old hairy blokes, but what if it wasn't? What if it was something people just did without dressing up head to foot in camo or constructing backside tents that could house a small family. This Mayme a Pro angler from Thialand I am not sure what they would make of her down at my local lake but I am certain she would probably out fish all of us and I am guessing she would encourage some more humans into the sport.

Le Pêcheur Gareth Watkins
I don't know why I should like this film. It is in French with French subtitles a language which while beautiful reminds me of my French teacher at school who was a twat. It is pole fishing which is something I enjoyed as a teenager up until the point when a git on a bike ran over the back sections destroying them and finally fishing for carp or pigs with fins. But with all that said, there is just a beautiful measured pace to the film and something that goes beyond mere attention to detail it is an attention to what is beautiful in those details. We just need to convince the film maker Gareth Watkins to get him self a lure rod or meet some people who know how to use them.

River Piker's Lure Bucket
This is video from Paul Bosworth A.k.A. the river piker making a lure bucket for his larger lure fishing trips. I did do a little tiny voice-over for this so it is also a bit of shameless self promotion. Paul and his regular crew of predator hunters seem to be able to charm them fishes from the river, lake or even canal so it is well worth checking out his youtube channel, subscribing, liking, sharing and all that stuff.

Totally Awesome Lure Making with James Lanfear
This is the latest video from the Totally Awesome Fishing Show featuring James Lanfear,
a great British lure builder, which is not as rare as it used to be. Hopefully with this inspiring video there will be a few more people prepared to turn the spare room or shed into a fully functioning lure workshop and at the same time save their marriage.
The Totally Awesome Fishing Show is one of my favourite youtube fishing channels run by father and son team the Pullens who I often wistfully imagine as a WWE wrestling team (maybe one day). Graeme Pullen, or dad as his son calls him has been a fishing journalist, writer, videographer and youtuber long enough to have probably seen it all. And when he is not fighting sharks or catching monster carp on baked beans he is sharing that wealth of knowledge experience through his channel in an accessible way that doesn't involve trying to sell you a brand of fishing tackle or a fist bumping personality.
For me this is what is great about you-tube getting access to people who give a sh*t about fishing and helping others. Viva La Pullens Please Subscribe to their channel. like, share, and leave them some kind words of support or I promise you the only fishing on you-tube will be some gimp in a buff casting for tarpon with a fly rod while on his day off from being a billionaire bastard banker (yes that is alliteration, but I think it works).

Behind the scenes at the Handmade Fisherman and a knife style lure
The new year is upon us and I have been a little busy making plans and videos. This is a look behind the scenes and I did not brush up first.
Hopefully this is going to be another big year for the Handmade Fisherman Youtube channel. Some people say you should set goals, but I say bollocks to them sitting in offices setting goals all day when they should get out fishing instead of hiding behind desks laughing about some shit they watched on last night’s tv. (viva la revolution)
Anyway back to them goals, I think my school teacher said it best when he wrote on my report, “Paul, must try harder.” So that is what I will be doing, trying harder and more importantly trying new things. I want to get out and go fishing with some new people, go to some new places and meet some new fish and make some new things and get it all on camera so you can come along.
I need help, watch the video it will explain. Thanks
This the other video I made before Christmas as a bonus

Moulding and casting a trout with Smooth-on
This I suppose is aimed at taxidermists and being made by a silicone and resin supplier is a little liberal with the silicone. With that said it is a great video that shows the process of casting from a real fish in some detail. I especially like the fins. Check out the youtube channel for more moulding and casting videos.
